DHG Cobras' Leadership Guide:
Hey guys! It's DHG Cobras here, I'm the Gen for Kopis squad. Today I'm going to try to help you better understand how to be a better leader, officer, and overall better person with this basic/advanced guide for leadership skills!
Lesson 1:Vision-Goals-Planning
Okay, before we really get into this, I'll just ask you one question:What do you think a vision is? While there are many answers for this, the one textbook definition for a vision is:A vision is what future success looks like. So before you go anywhere, whether this is a vision you set for yourself, or a vision you create amongst your group, just remember that a vision is what future success looks like to you. So whether you want want to be a rockstar, or an astronaut, you have to create your vision first.
When you create your vision, you must be thinking, well it can't be this simple now can it? Well, to meet your destination, you must have a walkway, so to speak. And that is where Goals come in. But not just any silly goal, these goals are goals that will eventually help you reach your vision. This is why when making goals for yourself or your group, you must make S.M.A.R.T Goals. What are S.M.A.R.T goals, you ask? Well, these goals are:
Specific
Measurable
Attainable
Relevant
Timely
Now, when making these goals, just go through the acronym and try to make that goal meet this criteria. For instance, if you want to be an astronaut, you have to go to flight school first. Is it S.M.A.R.T?See for yourself, and then you'll understand why S.M.A.R.T goals are so important.
But even then, you have to plan your goals. This is called planning, self-explanatory. Once you plan out a goal, you can make these goals a staircase, so to speak, so that you may be able to reach your vision.
Lesson 2:Planning and Problem-Solving
So now that you have a touch and feel for leadership for yourself and others, let's talk about conflict and problems among yourself and one another in your group. This will happen, although you may not like it, and it's vital that you know how to quickly react to these conflicts and solve these problems effectively.
This easy problem and planning tool will help you solve the simpler problems of a group or of yourself:What, How, When, Who. Yes, I know this is simple, but this will definitely make goals and planning and simple problem solving easier just by following those simple words.
Lesson 3:Assessment Tool/SSC
Alright, this is a tool I use for self improvement, and improvement in my officer corps. It's simple really, it's called Start-Stop-Continue. It helps to improve the status of knowledge and wisdom wherever you are. Just use it at any meeting, for example. Every week, we do an SSC at the officer meeting to see what we are doing right, and what to improve on, as well as what to stop doing. This helps you slowly perfect your team or squad and will help you reach future success.
Lesson 4:Stages of Team Development
Okay, so by now you know all about how to ride solo for success. But now I'd like to tell you all about team success. What is a team you ask? A team is a group of people that share a common vision. For example, the Board of Directors are a team because they share the common vision of seeing DHG succeed. An effective team can realize which stage of team development they are in:
Forming:High Enthusiasm,Low skills
Storming:Low Enthusiasm,Low skills
Norming:Rising Enthisiasm,Growing Skills
Performing:High Enthusiasm, High Skills
Now, this doesn't just apply to where the team is. This can process when the team is learning a new skill as well. Of course, everyone wants to be at the Performing stage, but you can't possibly skip a stage, because each stage is important in its own way. For example, a new team may want to learn how to post practice. Over time they bicker and gripe at each other over what's right and wrong, but with more time they begin to work as a team, and eventually they reach their common goa

I think that Synonymy has to be one of the top divisions. I think it's bad, but then I go to other divisions, and we are LUCKY. Not saying that other divisions suck, because I respect every division, but it just looks as if Synonymy has far less problems than other divisions right now. Good job division leaders. for bringing this division up from the very bottom, look at us now! Almost all Gen spots filled, 300 strong, new contests, regular BOG every week. We rock DHG! If you ever need any tips or advice, anybody, please don't hesitate to come see me. I'd be happy to help! So that's all from me today, have a good day DHG!
BOG was last night for Synonymy. I'm so used to Cousin always running it , but Karrotz handled it pretty well if you ask me. Go you dude, you rocked that BOG! But now it's back to Kopis, and it's time to have the most fun I can, while creating one of the best run squads you will ever see. It's go time ladies and gentlemen!I'm pumped, are you?
